They rock it from the north, east, south to the west!
Established in the year 2000, by the singer Tom Lugo (Puerto Rico), guitarist Samuel Hopf (USA), and drummer Murxen Alberti (Germany). Out of this trio a small orchestra developed over just a short period of time. Today, Jamaram consists of 8 thoroughbred musicians. Over the course of these years the crew developed their mature, unique sound with the addition of a base guitar, keyboards, a horn section, and percussion which completed them.
Regardless, either reggae, samba, rumba, ska, or soul, the repertoire of Jamaram is many faceted and original. Their very own “Jamaram Stylee” is a firework display of melodies, grooves, and passion which is authentic and convincing.
They play in small clubs, at open-air concerts, in the alley ways of Italy and perform as street musicians in France.
The band’s musical background, is exemplary. Just a few years ago this band was only endlessly practicing. Today the band is an explosive, professional live-show. Their debut album “Kalahassi” (June 2004, Soulfire Artists/Rough Trade) was applauded by many, the success of this first long player opened the doors to concert tours all over Germany. With each live performance their experience grew as did their fan base.
After the release of their single “Never Too Late” in early 2005 (Soulfire Artists/Rough Trade), which along with “Kalahassi” they produced on their own, their career just took off. In the past two years they played over one hundred European concerts per year. Some of these festival highlights were: Chiemsee Reggae Summer (D-Übersee), Rototom-Sunsplash (I-Osoppo), Karneval der Kulturen (D-Berlin), Ringfest and Summerjam (D-Cologne), Breminale (D-Bremen), Oben Ohne Open-Air (D-Munich), Reggae Jam (D-Bersenbrück), Africa-Karibic-Festival (D-Aschaffenburg), Szene Open Air (A-Lustenau)…, only to mention a few. During the World Soccer Championship in Germany they performed in front of 35.000 people at the Olympic Park in Munich.
In May 2006 they released their second album “Ookuchaka” (Soulfire Artists/Rough Trade). It is a musical journey, sunny and colorful. For the music video, “Megan”, Cosma Shiva Hagen could be persuaded to act as the main character.
In February 2007 Jamaram were honoured with the “Austrian Newcomer Award” as best foreign Band and also with the “CREOLE Award for Worldmusik 2007″.
